Five years RI for raping mentally-challenged minor girl

A Mahila Court has sentenced a 56-year-old man to five year rigorous imprisonment for raping a mentally-challenged minor girl about three years ago in Valparai.

Velayutham, a resident of Vagamalai Estate area, had sexually assaulted the mentally-challenged minor girl, when she was alone at home on January 17, 2013. Based on the complaint by the girl’s mother, who witnessed the crime, police arrested Velayutham. The case was tried by the Mahila Court in Coimbatore.

The judge sentenced the accused to five years imprisonment and to pay Rs.5,000 as penalty, failing which, he has to serve another six month’s jail term.
