Nearly 170 passengers of the Nilgiris Mountain Rail (NMR) were left stranded on the track today after the train stopped in the middle of its journey following a technical snag.
The Heritage Train, which left Mettupalayam at 7.10 AM, came to a grinding halt some half-a-kilometre away from its destination, Coonoor, after its piston rod got stuck.
Majority of the passengers covered the remaining 500 metres by walking along the railway track. Efforts were made to tow the train to the Coonoor railway station.
