Lifer for youth who killed a man over bus seat

Ooty: The District Sessions court sentenced a 24-year-old youth to undergo life imprisonment for murdering a man by throwing a stone, following a quarrel in a bus four years ago.

On June 1, 2012, Nishant, then 20, got into a quarrel with Balakrishnan (40), over a seat in the bus at Manjanakorai. The wordy quarrel soon escalated into a fist fight and both were asked to get down from the bus.

In a fit of anger, Nishant took a stone lying on the road and hit Balakrishnan. An injured Balakrishnan was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to the injuries.

The judge, R. Nakeeran imposed a penalty of Rs.2000 and life sentence on Nishant.
