The Tamil Nadu Toddy Movement demanded the State Government to release action plan to control the consumption of alcohol as a mark of paying tribute to the death of Gandhiyan Sasi Perumal.

In a memorandum to the State Government, Coordinator of the movement, S Nallasamy, said: “Sasi Perumal conducted agitation against alcohol till his death. However, he supported our movement’s demand for lifting ban against toddy. He could have been saved, if the police had acted quickly, soon after he began the protest at Marthandam in Kanyakumari.”

He also said, “Alcohol addiction has become common among children as well as the aged. It causes serious problems in the society. The State government has the responsibility to regulate it.”

He said, “In order to reduce the consumption of alcohol in the State, the Government should come out with an action plan, and also for imposing total prohibition. That should be a real tribute to the death of Sasi Perumal.”
