Though disappointed, DMK and BJP and other political parties too, who desperately tried to woo Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), on Wednesday said that Vijayakanth’s decision to join People’s Welfare Front (PWF) would no way affect their victory prospects in the elections.
Both the BJP and DMK have said that even without DMDK their respective parties would be able to clinch victories. For BJP it was a double blow because it was not able to bring both the DMK as well as the DMDK into its fold.
“Our party will not be affected by the new alliance. We are not considering DMDK-PWF combine a big force and therefore it will not dent our victory chances”, DMK Chief M. Karunanidhi’s son M.K. Stalin said.
Stating that he and his party combine was busy with the poll preparations, Stalin said “it was up to him (Vijayakanth) to decide where to go”.
Putting up a brave face the BJP has announced that its party was strong enough to go it alone in the polls. Tamil Nadu BJP State Unit President Tamilisai Soundararajan said: “It is a pity that Vijayakanth joined PWF. He wasted his political prospects by entering into an electoral alliance with PWF”.
She further added that Vijayakanth’s decision would not affect the party as it relied heavily on the “good work of the NDA Government at the Centre. We are ready to contest all 234 seats alone. We will emerge winners”.
Pointing out that the alliance went against the expectations of the people of Tamil Nadu, senior BJP leader and Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan has said that the PWF-DMDK alliance would not benefit the people of Tamil Nadu.
PMK senior leader and former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss said that Vijayakanth should have taken this decision few months ago when the PWF had approached him.
He also asserted that their party was not interested in getting allies as it depended on the support of youth and women.
