Rotary Clubs donate mobile cancer screening van

The Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore have donated a new van to Sri Ramakrishna Institute of Oncology and Research (SRIOR). The van will be converted into a mobile cancer screening unit.

The van was handed over by y the Rotary’s Governor, Venugopal Menon to D.Lakshminarayanasamy, the Joint Managing Trustee of SNR Sons Charitable Trust, on the 10th anniversary of DEEPAM (Detect Early Ensure Prevention and
Management). DEEPAM conducts regular cancer screening camps in the districts of Coimbatore, Nilgiri, Tirupur, Erode, Dindigul, and Karur.

According to Dr. P. Guhan, Director and Chief Oncologist of SRIOR, DEEPAM has screened more than 2 lakh women for cervical and breast cancers. In its second phase, DEEPAM began screening for oral cancers in 2012.
