Coimbatore-based NCC student bags gold in IGC firing

Coimbatore-based youth, Jothish Kumar from National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadet of the SNR Sons College, bagged gold medal in 50m peep sight prone position in the Inter-Group Competitions (IGC) firing contest. He recorded a score of 526 for 600, thereby setting a new record in IGC firing.

Jothish has also been selected to participate in the 26th All India G.V. Mavalakar Shooting Competition, to be held in Mumbai.

Firing contests are organised each year for the NCC cadets from all the states. Six district cadets participated in the camp that was organized this year. The cadet from Coimbatore brought home seven gold medals, five silver, and a bronze medal this year.

In the Tamilnadu Directorate, Lt. Col. Sanil Damodaran, of the 15th Battalion, Erode, organised the firing camp for junior and senior division boy- and girl-cadets. As part of the camp, Peep and Open sight firing competitions in prone and three other positions were organised.
