Girl killed as Dy Speaker’s son’s car rams into median

Police have registered cases against the son of Tamil Nadu Assembly Deputy Speaker Pollachi V. Jayaraman for rash driving resulting in an accident in which an 18-year-old girl was killed near Avinashi here on Wednesday.

The car, driven by Pravin rammed the centre median, killing his classmate Surekha on the spot and injuring five others. All of them were travelling in the car together. Pravin is a first year fashion technology students in Coimbatore.

Pravin and others have been admitted to a private hospital with injuries.

According to police, Pravin’s car also hit another car coming in the opposite direction. Three passengers in the car sustained minor injuries. He has been booked for causing death by negligence (IPC Sec 304 a), causing hurt by an act endangering life (IPC Sec 337) besides rash driving.

Pravin and others were on the way to Erode to meet a friend. When the vehicle neared Oothiyur near Perumanallur in Tirupur District he lost control. Pravin sustained minor injuries as he was protected by the air bag.
