The high-level technical team constituted by the Supreme Court to assess the situation in the Cauvery basin area today inspected Mettur dam. The team is expected to submit its report on October 17 to the apex court, after visiting delta area in Tamil Nadu in a couple of days.

Headed by GS Jha, chairman of Central Water Commission, the 13-member team took stock of the situation, considering its water level, inflow and discharge in Mettur dam, near Salem, an official said.

The team, in the state after a two day visit of Karnataka, had discussions with officials from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry.

Minister for Highways & Minor Ports Edappadi Palanisamy submitted a memorandum to the team, even as a group of farmers requested steps to constitute the Cauvery Management Board, stating that was the only way towards solving the vexed issue, the official who was part of the team said.

The team will inspect the Bhavanisagar dam in nearby Erode district, before proceeding to the Cauvery delta areas, tomorrow.

They will inspect the situation in Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam and submit a report containing their assessments, both in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, to the Supreme Court on October 17, the official said.
