Claiming that the desired and announced companies did not turn up at a job fair organised at a private arts and science college here on Sunday, attending students staged a protest.

According to one of the students who had come from Thiruchengode, they had received a message on WhatsApp ten days ago about the job fair, place and time of which was announced later.

“Initially they had said that many multinational companies would visit and that plenty of job offers were available,” he added.

However, despite more than 3,000 students turning up for the fair paying Rs. 300 as registration fee, many companies whose names were advertised did not turn up, leaving the students disappointed.

“When we complained about this to the organisers they claimed that it was the fault of the companies and not theirs,” said another student.

Following this, the students staged a demonstration inside the campus. Police who arrived at the scene pacified them and agreed to get their money back. Yet, most students returned without getting the fee reimbursed as it got very late.

When Covai Post tried reaching the organisers, there were not available for comment.
