Chennai: Apollo Hospital on Monday informed the Madras High Court that it will submit all medical reports pertaining to late Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in a sealed envelope, while the Tamil Nadu government sought time to gather information and submit its counter on a petition filed over Jayalalithaa’s death.

During the course of arguments in the PIL over Jayalalithaa’s death, the hospital said it was ready to submit all its medical reports and discharge summary to the court. Chief Justice S K Kaul said only after the responses of the State and Central governments were considered, could a decision be taken on the maintainability of the three PILs filed over the death of Jayalalithaa.

The case has now been posted for February 23. Kaul questioned the locus standi of the petitioners, none of whom were blood relatives of the late chief minister and as to why they had filed the petition.

Earlier on January 6, the Madras High Court had dismissed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking direction to the Centre to announce Bharat Ratna for Jayalalithaa.

Jayalalithaa was admitted to Apollo Hospital on September 22 with fever and dehydration. Medical bulletins issued by the hospital initially stated that the Chief Minister was stable, under treatment and required rest. Apollo Hospital Chairman Pratap C Reddy had maintained that Jayalalithaa was fine and could go home anytime she wanted to.

But on December 4 late evening, she suffered a cardiac arrest and passed away on December 5.
