Construction worker buried alive as loose soil caves in

A 42-year-old construction worker was buried alive, when loose soil caved in on him near Coonoor on Saturday.

According to police, Ravikumar and few others were involved in some digging work at a construction site in Upper Coonoor area, when the loose soil suddenly caved in. Ravikumar and one more person were trapped. While his colleague managed to come out, Ravikumar could not. Ravikumar was pulled out after some time, but he was dead by then, police said.

Search was on to ascertain whether any other worker was caught in the soil, they said.

The body of Ravikumar, a local functionary of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi at Melur in Madurai district, was kept at the Coonoor Government Hospital.
