Coimbatore is criss-crossed with shortcuts, cut-roads, extensions and connecting roads and vehicle numbers are very high. And in this maze, it a wonder watching people jump to the main roads taking these bylanes.

It cannot be `single-handedly’ it is an `art of joint effort’ where small vehicles struggle and big ones make it so easily.

Small but firm steps matter. Stop your vehicle where the main road starts. Often luck favours you as you get into a company of many like you waiting to be on the main line.

As vehicles move one by one through the main road you find yourself to be part of this and also find that soon you have crossed the road.

“There are no signals and traffic police. I choose cut roads mainly to avoid heavy traffic. But when it comes to getting back to the main road, it’s kind of adventurous game. We can win it only through teamwork,” says biker K Kamaraj.

It may sound funny and equally risky. “We keep checking all the time. But it’s hard to do it for everywhere. Because there are so many cut roads in the city. And the vehicle numbers are hard to manage. Plus the over bridge work make things worse,” says an official.

Also only at entrances to the main roads and main junctions can we have barricades and signals and also speed-breakers. “When people take the licence to do this act, clear guidance has been given to everyone how to cross or how to enter into main roads from cut roads and so on. But looks like none cares,” he adds.

With so many cut-roads and several not having sign boards, there is the feeling that one is trapped somewhere and finally can end up paying traffic fines. If one is to ask a police official or any person how they manage to make way through this, none has a clear reply. It simply happens, is the answer.
