Brain dead man gives new lease of life to nine

A 43-year old brain dead man’s vital organs today gave new lease of life to nine persons.

N. Selvaraj, a resident of Ramnagar in Tirupur, while travelling on his motor cycle was hit by a car near Palladam on June 12. He sustained serious injuries.

After receiving first aid in Sulur branch of Kovai Medical Centre and Hospital (KMCH), he was shifted to the KMCH main hospital here yesterday, a hospital release said today.

Since he was not responding to treatment, Selvaraj was declared brain dead and his family members came forward to donate his organs.

A team of doctors today harvested liver, kidney, heart, lung, eyes, skin and bone, the release said.

Liver and a Kidney were transplanted at KMCH, Heart and Lung sent to a hospital in Chennai, a Kidney to SPT Hospital, Eyes to Aravind Eye hospital and Skin and Bone to Ganga Hospital all in Coimbatore, it said.
