With onset of South West Monsoon, the rural limits of the district, particularly Valparai and Pollachi, are experiencing good rains for the last three days, resulting in rivers starting brimming to full.

The continuous rains forced the administration to declare holiday for schools in Valparai area.

The rain waters entered a few houses in Vazhaithottam in Valparai and also some tea estates, while tourists are cautioned not to venture into rivers to take bath, official sources said.

Valparai received 142 m rains, Sholayar catchment area 70 mm, Neerar 170 mm, Chinnakkallar 142 mm and Pollachi received 30 mm rains, in the last 24 hours. The rains for the last four days affected the normal life in Valparai and other areas, even as the inflow to Sholayar dam is increasing.

Rains are also lashing in nearby Nilgiris district, affecting normal life, particularly major tourist spots like Udhagamandalam, Doddabetta, Mudumalai, Masinagudi, Avalanji and Kothagiri.
