Chitkara University today announced that its young scientist and faculty Dr. Varsha Singh from the field of Biochemistry represented India as one of the delegates at the BRICS Young Scientist Conclave, 2017 held in China. The 2nd BRICS Young Scientist Conclave was this year hosted in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China from 11th July to 15th July 2017.

The idea of the BRICS Young Scientist Forum was adopted at the 2nd BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Ministerial Meeting. The 1st Forum was held in Bangalore (India) in September 2016. The 4th BRICS STI Ministerial Meeting held in Jaipur in October 2016; the BRICS STI Coordinating Ministries agreed to hold the Forum on a rotational basis in the country hosting the BRICS Chair.

After rigorous three rounds of selection through Department of Science and Technology, India to BRICS Ministerial selection board and finally the host country’s Ministry of Science and Technology, Dr. Varsha got through prestigious international platform out of 250 applicants and became one of the Top 20 young scientists to represent at BRICS Conclave. All participants from the BRICS nation were selected and recommended by the science and technology ministries and funding parties of the five BRICS nation.

The BRICS Young Scientist Forum was adopted at the 2nd BRICS Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Ministerial Meeting upon the proposal of India. The Theme of the BRICS YS Conclave is to identify Biotechnology, Energy and Material Sciences collaborations and establish the cross cutting field of science, technology and innovation policies, science communication and science popularization among the BRICS nations. Top 20 recommended scientists were called to present their research work and strengthen their inter-disciplinary integration, encourage new academic inspirations and cultivate new academic disciplines and produce valuable policy advice.
