12 vehicles seized in five-day inspection

Transport department officials have seized 12 vehicles for not meeting the requirements. The seizure was made over five days in special checking conducted in the Coimbatore zone recently.

According to a statement, department officials conducted checking at Neelambur, Palladam, Pollachi, Karpagam College, Gandhipuram and Kovilpalayam in the zone between April 13 and 17.

Officials also collected fine amounting to Rs 6.3 lakh and tax amounting to Rs. 1.92 lakh. They had targeted a fine of Rs. 3.94 lakh and tax of Rs 19,200.

A total 2,952 vehicles were checked. Owners of 214 vehicles were booked for various offences, 49 for over load.
