Ambulance crew assists woman to deliver child in water marooned house

Coimbatore : The service minded crew members of 108 Ambulance Sunday successfully saved a woman and her new born child, from her house, which was marooned by water near Sirumugai, some 40 kms from here.

With the bridge connecting three villages was immersed in the flood waters from Bhavani river, which is in spate since two months. and the people, including students, had to use coracle, the only means of transport.

The woman, Kavitha developed labour pain in the morning and ambulance was requisitioned and learning about the situation, two vehicles reached Lingapuram and the staff managed to reach the house in the coracle.

As Kavitha started to get intense pain, the woman paramedical staff decided to take the delivery in the house itself and delivered a boy.

Since the baby had some problems, the staff took it to waiting ambulance on the other side of the area and to Mettupalayam Government hospital and mother who suffered heavy blood loss, was also taken by coracle, to the same hospital covering some five kms through forest area.

The condition of both mother and child is said to be stable.

The villagers and doctors lauded the services of the ambulance crew members in such an emergency situation and blamed the administration for not not taking steps to clear the flood waters and retrieve the bridge, the only pathway to reach the town.
