Industry-academia initiative to provide students with hands-on exposure to emerging AI technologies

Coimbatore – Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, in collaboration with Orion Innovation, has launched an Applied Generative AI elective program aimed at equipping students with practical skills in emerging AI technologies and enterprise applications.

The program is currently being offered across Amrita campuses in Amritapuri, Coimbatore, and Bengaluru, with more than 70 students enrolled during their sixth semester. The initiative combines academic learning with real-world industry exposure, enabling students to work with contemporary AI tools, platforms, and problem-solving methodologies.

The curriculum introduces students to key areas including Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), agentic AI frameworks, Responsible AI, LLM security, fine-tuning, and autonomous agents. Students also gain exposure to leading AI ecosystems and technologies such as Microsoft Azure AI Foundry, AWS Bedrock, Google Gemini, Microsoft Copilot Studio, Hugging Face, LangChain, Ollama, and vector databases.

“At Amrita, we believe the future of education lies in integrating academic rigor with real-world industry relevance,” said Br. Vishwanathamritha Chaitanya, Director, Corporate and Industry Relations (CIR), Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham.

“This collaboration gives students direct exposure to rapidly evolving AI technologies, enterprise applications, and industry workflows, helping them become future-ready professionals in the digital economy.”

As part of the collaboration, high-performing students may also be considered for internship opportunities with Orion Innovation, helping create pathways from academic learning to industry experience.

The initiative has been formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that also includes faculty enablement programs, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and continued collaboration between industry experts and academic teams to align education with evolving technological needs.
