Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham Hosts Grand Gokulashtami Celebrations

Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham, Coimbatore, marked the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmashtami with grandeur, extending the festivities from August 23rd to 27th.

The Gokulashtami celebrations commenced with a vibrant array of competitions spanning art, literature, theatre, performing arts, and sports, fostering a spirit of creativity and unity among students. A spiritually enriching satsang by Bhakti Vinoda Swami of ISKCON, centered on the theme “You are not the one you think you are,” brought the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita to life, offering profound insights into Lord Krishna’s message.

Over the four-day event, the campus buzzed with activity, featuring devotional bhajans, cultural programs, and grand processions that highlighted the university’s rich cultural heritage. The festive atmosphere was further enhanced by traditional food stalls, providing attendees with an authentic culinary experience. The celebrations reached their peak on Gokulashtami day with special bhajans and a dramatic reenactment of Krishna’s birth, followed by a pooja led by Swami Tapasyamritananda Puri, who also distributed prasad to the devotees.
On the final day, Dr. Sasangan Ramanathan, Dean of Engineering, announced the winners of the Gokulashtami competitions.

The Mechanical Engineering Department emerged victorious, clinching both the Rolling Trophy and the Overall Trophy in the major department category. The Computer Science Engineering Department secured the runner-up position. In the minor department category, the School of Agriculture achieved a remarkable hat-trick by winning both the Rolling and Overall Trophies for the third consecutive year.The students’ relentless dedication was recognized with special mentions and certificates, and the Amrita School of Business was honored with the runner-up trophy.

The successful execution of the Gokulashtami celebrations was made possible by the meticulous planning and efforts of the Office of Student Affairs, supported by the Ashram, management, and senior administrators. The event concluded with a deep sense of joy, unity, and accomplishment, leaving the Amrita community with cherished memories.
