The Avinashilingam University will reopen on July 27 after a month-long closure following protest of the varsity staff.
The administration had declared indefinite closure from July 1, following the protests by the staff demanding the implementation of the amended regulations of the University Grants Commission (UGC) regarding the appointment of the vice-chancellor for the university, and also enter into a memorandum of agreement with the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD) to continue to run university as an MHRD-funded institution.
Though the authorities had promised to consider all the demands of the staff, the university remained closed.
Meanwhile, the university announced on Friday that the classes will resume from July 27, 2015 onwards. Classes for the second- and third-year undergraduate students and for the second-Year post graduate students will begin on July 27. The classes for the first year UG students will commence from on July 29.
