In order to promote tree-based agriculture in Tamil Nadu, the Cauvery Calling Movement is going to conduct field training in 6 districts on a single day called ‘Cultivation of Tree Crops that Yield in Lakhs.’ The training is planned to happen in the six districts of Coimbatore, Thiruvannamalai, Tenkasi, Dharmapuri, Thiruvarur, and Pudukottai, on the 7th of January, from 10 AM to 3 PM.

A press conference in this regard was held at Chennai Press Club this (Jan 4) morning. In this, the Tamil Nadu Field Coordinator of Cauvery Calling Movement, Mr. Thamizhmaaran, informed the reporters:

As timber trees are a good source of income for the farmers and a solution to the environmental problems being faced at present, the Cauvery Calling Movement is providing necessary assistance to the farmers to take up tree-based agriculture. Every year, it conducts field training in popular tree farms in Tamil Nadu. Currently, it has organized regional-level training to benefit the local farmers. By participating in this, farmers can visit a farm near their village and learn about trees that can grow well in their regions.

In that regard, currently, zone-wise training is going to be held at Coimbatore, Thiruvannamalai, Tenkasi, Dharmapuri, Tiruvarur, and Pudukottai. In the training, pioneer tree farmers and field workers from respective areas will explain tree cultivation. They will also share their ideas on the best ways to market and sell the wood.

After the training, a staff member from the Cauvery Calling Movement will come to your land and advise on the selection of trees suitable for the soil. Farmers in these districts can benefit by participating in this training. Interested farmers can contact 94425 90079, or 94425 90081, to register for the training.

Also, Cauvery Calling Movement provides all necessary assistance to the farmers who want to take up tree-based farming. Timber saplings are being provided to farmers at a low price of Rs 3 in 40 Isha nursery farms across Tamil Nadu. Saplings such as teak, neem, blackberry, Indian kino tree, manjakadambai, sandalwood, red sandalwood, white teak, mahogany mature into valuable timber trees in 20-25 years and fetch good prices. Pepper cultivation can also be done for additional income. Pepper seedlings can be mounted on the tree within 3 years of tree planting. This way, farmers can get income every year.
