To commemorate their golden jubilee celebrations, a medical expo is being organized at the Coimbatore Medical College (CMC) campus. District Collector Archana Patnaik and Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) Commissioner Dr. Vijay Karthikeyan inaugurated the medical expo this morning. The expo will remain open till June 25.
CMC has 40 departments. The students of each of the departments have put up a stall at the expo. After the inauguration, the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) R. Soundravel told reporters that the main aim of the medical expo is to sensitise the public about various diseases and disorders. “Our aim is to create the necessary awareness about diseases and disorders. Through this medical expo we are trying to spread the message that prevention is better than cure,” Soundravel said.
Seconding him was Dr. Edwin Joe, Dean, Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH). “An increasing number of people are becoming victims of lifestyle diseases. Through this medical expo, we are trying to create awareness about the various lifestyle diseases and disorders. Diseases, when diagnosed at an early stage, can be cured for sure. We are expecting about 2 lakh visitors,” Dr. Edwin said.
The medical expo is on at the CMC campus on Avinashi Road. Visiting hours on weekdays are between 10 am and 6 pm. On weekends, the expo is open between 9 am and 7 pm. Entry fee is Rs.40 for adults, and Rs.20 for students.
