A group Coimbatore-based industrialists and experts have launched an ambitious ten year programme to make the city a rolemodel for the state.
Speaking about the initiative, the founder trustee, of IC Centre for Governance, Coimbatore S Baskar said, “After two days of consultation with the members of the forum, we have drafted a plan for making Coimbatore the ‘Replicable Model City in Governance’ in Tamil Nadu. In order to achieve the target, we have come out with a ten year action plan for talent development initiatives in all the sectors.”
The members of the forum belong to different areas of specialization. They have all come together to draft the action plan. He said, “The architect group, consisting of seven experts, will take care of transport, economic development and urban planning.”
The environmental conservation group, consisting of environmental activists, will come up with plans for conserving the water bodies in the city. “The capacity building group will take care of technical training for all sectors in association with the institutions,” he elaborated.
Yet another team will look after the task of creating ‘collective leadership’ in the city. Based on the reports from various teams, an action plan for the next ten years will be formulated. The reports will be submitted to the City Corporation, District Administration, and the State Government.
