An autorickshaw driver N Mohanraj was attacked by the private college students at Eachanari near Karpagam University on Pollachi Road. He was injured severely and admitted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

Mohanraj was on his vehicle on way to Eachanari when two college students came from the opposite direction in their motorcycle. They were riding rashly and Mohanraj told them to ride carefully. He also scolded them.

Later, the students came in a larger group to the auto stand and bashed up Mohanraj.

According to eye witness L Mani, another auto driver, “I was talking to a commuter when a heard a sound and saw that Mohanraj was being attacked with by some youths with an iron rod. My friends and I rushed to the spot and took him to the hospital.’’

The drivers then went to Mathukarai police station to file a complaint. Police sources said `compromise’ talks were on. The parents of the students have been informed and in case Mohanraj filed a case, police would take up the matter, sources added.

Hospital sources said that Mohanraj was stable and his wounds had been stitched.
