A 33-year old woman, today, sought the intervention of the District Administration to rescue her mother, stranded in Riyadh, where she had gone to work as a maid some nine months ago.

In a petition to the District Collector, Archana Patnaik, the woman, Gomathi of Kattoor in the city claimed that her mother 55-year old Rajalakshmi was taken to Riyadh to work as a maid by a Chennai-based agent in February last.

Gomathi claimed that the house owner, Johana was not giving proper food to Rajalakshmi and tortured her without any reason. She was given a torn night gown to wear and was made to work for more than 18 hours a day, the petition claimed.

The owner had sent only Rs.15,000 as wages to her mother’s account during the last eight months, she said.

Gomathi said that she had received a call from her mother on last Friday. She had told her daughter that she was in police custody as she had run away from Johana’s house unable to bear the torture. The police had detained her as she had no passport and other documents with her.

She sought immediate intervention to rescue her mother.
