Death toll rises to 6 in van-truck collision

Coimbatore : With the death of an 8-year-old boy, the death toll in the van truck collision in Walayar on Tamil Nadu-Kerala rose to six Sunday.

Five persons, including three children, were killed and seven injured when the van in which they were travelling from here to Palakkad rammed onto the parked truck in Walayar yesterday.

The injured were undergoing treatment in private and Government hospitals here and the 8-year-old boy succumbed to injuries this morning in a private hospital, police said.

All the bodies were buried at a graveyard in R S Puram,

Mean while, Tamil Nadu chief minister, K Palanisamy announced a solatium of Rs 2 lakh to the family of those dead, Rs 50,000 with serious injuries and Rs 25,000 with minor injuries, official sources said
