Following the death of Sasi Perumal, the anti-liquor protestor, an all-party meeting was held in Coimbatore, which demanded strict implementation of prohibition in Tamil Nadu. Members of MDMK, CPI, CPI (M), Manitaneya Makkal Katchi, Aam Aadmi Party, VCK, and SDPI took part in the meeting.

RR Mohan Kumar, the district secretary of MDMK, said that the meeting was held to gather support for anti-liquor protests on August 4, and to pay homage to Sasi Perumal, who died at Marthandam, Kanyakumari, on Friday. “Tamil Nadu government should take immediate steps to close down all TASMAC shops in the state,” he said.

He also held the Kanyakumari district administration and the police responsible for Sasi Perumal’s death.
