The Desia Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) cadre today petitioned the Corporation Commissioner K. Vijayakarthikeyan seeking the completion of 4 Rail Over-bridges which are being constructed in various places in Coimbatore. They also demanded that the corporation should speed up the repairworks on the roads and clear the drainage systems.

R. Tamil Murugan, the district secretary of DMDK, said that the ROBs under construction in SIHS colony, Gandhimanagar, Vellalore Road, and Rathnapuri have been dragging on for a long time, and should be completed as soon as possible. “The ROB construction at Gandhimanagar near Pelamedu has been going on for almost 6 years now. Vehicles are being diverted, making it inconvenience for the people. It is an important junction and hence should be completed immediately,” he said.

He further said that the recent rains have largely affected the people of Coimbatore and the city’s infrastructure, adding that the roads have been wrecked. “The rains have exposed the poor condition of roads, especially in Wards 8, 40, 41, 47, 58, 59, 62, 65, and 95. These should immediately be repaired because these are used by school children and many accidents occur in these areas,” he said.

He also said that the heavy rains had clogged the drainage system in wards including 6, 7, 11, 15, 25 and 88, and the water flooded the roads. “Rain waters also damaged houses in Wards 86 and 87. Relief funds should be distributed to affected people,” he opined. “The Sanganur canal should be desilted,” he added.

Demanding the civic body construct public toilets in Ward 90, Tamil Murugan also had requested that the dilapidated public toilet in Ward 87 should be repaired.
