Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT-M) has introduced its Mathematics Training and Talent Search (MTTS) camp for students to develop their thinking and mathematical abilities.
The MTTS programme will be conducted at three centres – Chennai, Noida, and Mysuru. 250 students will be selected for the four-week long programme. Preference will be given to girl-students, and those from rural background.
There is also a two-week version of the programme, called the Mini MTTS for the students from Kashmir.
According to Professor A.V. Jayanthan, IIT Madras, Coordinator of MTTS programme, the camp to motivate students to pursue higher studies in math. The interactive sessions, according to him, will encourage students to “come up with theorems and discussions.”
The idea, he said, is to make the students look upon Math “as a science by quoting real life situations.”
Faculty from the IITs, the University of Hyderabad, and Central University, Tamil Nadu will be among the guest instructors at the camp.
