Coimbatore: Police unearthed an illegal tobacco products,including pan masala and gutka manufacturing unit in Sulur on the outskirts.
Based on a tipoff that tobacco products whose sales of which are banned in Tamil Nadu are being taken out of a godown in Kannampalayam some 25 km from here, Superintendent of Police P Murthy deputed a police team last night.
The Sulur special officer from food safety, deputy tahsildar and official for revenue and prohibition wing also joined the team for the search, police said.
The officials seized two gunny bags of finished products and nearly 20 tonnes of raw materials from there during the search which lasted till the early hours.
The products manufactured were despatched to other districts and States from the godown, reportedly owned by one Jain. Police have taken one Raghu, the godown supervisor, into custody for interrogation.
