Relatives of a 24-year-old woman attempted to besiege the Coimbatore Kidney Centre today alleging that the management was trying to abandon her without giving proper treatment.

According to S. Dhanraj, relative of N. Suganya from Aathupalam, she was admitted in the hospital 20 days back after she developed some complications. “The hospital asked us to pay Rs. 50,000 first, claiming that she was suffering from cancer and it could be treated. But later they asked us pay another Rs. 3.5 lakhs. We have already paid Rs. 2.25 lakhs till now hoping that she would get cured,” he said.

The hospital has not been allowing Suganya’s relatives to see her, saying that she was in the Intensive Care Unit. “They did not allow even her husband and two daughters to see her,” he alleged.

“The hospital administration is asking us to pay an additional Rs. 70,000 now as she is not recovering as expected. Now they want us to pay the money and take her home. Her husband Rajesh Kumar is a daily wager and he cannot afford to pay anymore,” he said.

A lot of Suganya’s friends and relatives donated blood for her. Suganya’s relatives, numbering more than 100, gathered in front of the hospital and tried to besiege it. However, no FIR has been filed against the hospital administration.

When contacted, Dr K.S. Ramalingam, Chief Nephrologist of the hospital said that he did not know about the issue.
