Coimbatore : Rally for Rivers, an initiative of Isha Foundation, is creating a forest in a six-acre land of the foundation on the outskirts.

The objective was to make it a centre for observation and education for plant enthusiasts and children to learn about at least 200 species of native and endemic trees, shrubs and bushes.

It was also to demonstrate how bringing in trees to a place would lead to birds, squirrels, butterflies and other such species coming there with 3,600 trees, shrubs and bushes being planted, a foundation statement said today.

Students of Isha Home School, Isha Vidhya and ashramites along with village and community leaders observed World Water Day 2018 today, which started with a bicycle rally in which 100 volunteers participated.

There was a forest plantation activity with 200 full-time volunteers of Rally for Rivers from all over India, leaving their homes and jobs, to contribute in the revival of rivers in the country, it added.
