Karthik MLA’s anticipatory bail plea hearing on May 10

Coimbatore : The hearing on the petition filed by DMK Singanallur MLA, N Karthik, seeking anticipatory bail in a gutka scam related case was posted to May 10.

Police registered cases against 10 DMK activists, including Karthik, on charges of obstructing police in carrying out duty when they were raiding an illegal gutka manufacturing unit in Kannampalayam near here on April 27.

While seven persons were arrested and lodged in the Central Jail, search was on for Karthik and others, even as Karthik and Somanur Thangaraj had filed a anticipatory bail petition in the district court here.

Judge Gunasekaran today took up the plea and police sought time to respond, based on which the case was posted to May 10.
