Knitwear exporters thank TN CM for making representation to PM

Coimbatore : Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) today thanked Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palanisamy for making a representation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to address a few important issues affecting the textile industry.

In a statement, TEA president Raja M Shanmugham said the representation specifically touched Tirupur knitwear export sector-related issues, mainly to safeguard the industry in Tamil Nadu and sustain it in the global market.

Thanking the Chief Minister for considering the representations from TEA, Raja Shanmugham pointed out that Tirupur knitwear sector issues like declining of competitiveness by about 10 per cent due to Customs duty free status enjoyed by competing countries like Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia, decrease of rebate on state levies from 3.5 per cent to 1.7 per cent and duty drawback from 7.7 to 2 per cent had been included in the representation.
