Martyr Sreejith’s body to arrive today

The body of Sapper Sreejith M.J., who was killed with two other jawans when militants ambushed an Army convoy in Shopian district of South Kashmir on Thursday, would reach Coimbatore at 4.30 p.m. today from Delhi. His body would later be taken to his hometown Palakkad by road.

Born on May 19, 1989 at Paruthipully village in Palakkad district, Sreejith joined the Army’s Engineers Corps in September 2009. Sreejith is survived by his parents and a sister.

The other two Army personnel who were killed along with Sreejith were identified as Lance Naik Ghulam Mohi-ud-din Rather from Jammu and Kashmir and Sepoy Vikas Singh Gurjar from Rajasthan.

Three Army personnel and a civilian were killed and four security personnel were injured in an ambush attack at Mulu Chitragam village in Shopian district. The Army party was returning to its headquarters from a cordon and search operation that they had launched against militants at Kungnoo village.

According to police, the attack was carried out by the members of Hizbul Mujahideen.
