A senior woman official in the Mettupalayam Municipality was arrested today while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 5000.

Based on a complaint by one Anandan, a contractor in the area, that the Municipal Commissioner (in-charge) Malligai was demanding money to sanction digging of a borewell, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) sleuths laid a trap, police said.

Accordingly, Anandan was asked to pay Rs. 5000 which was marked by the sleuths with chemical, and Malligai was nabbed when she was allegedly accepting it, they said.

After a search for three hours, the four-member team lead by DSP Murugesan, seized seven documents, including tender register, estimate and bill registers, as evidence.

Malligai was produced before a judicial magistrate court that remanded her to judicial custody.
