Coimbatore : Tension prevailed in Tirupur city, following push and pull between MDMK workers, who were agitating with black flags protesting against the visit of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and some Hindu outfits opposing agitation.

As announced, MDMK General Secretary Vaiko and more than 200 workers, belonging to that party and other fringe organisations involved in black flag demonstration in the city, some 15 KMs away from the venue of two functions in which Modi is scheduled to participate.

Meanwhile, a section of workers belonging to Hindu outfits, including BJP, mingled with the crowd with saffron flag and raised slogans against Vaiko, police said.

This led to push and pull between the workers from both sides andpolice managed to disperse them.

BJP Youth wing, through posters pasted in some areas in Coimbatore and Tirupur City had cautioned Vaiko to give ‘special treatment’ if they went ahead with his black flag demonstration against the Modi.

According to police, a woman BJP activist was injured in the attack and the window pane of car belonging to MDMK leader broken in the melee.

Addressing the party workers, Vaiko said that Modi has betrayed Tamil Nadu and neglected the State. Modi had not visited the area affected by the Gaja cyclone in the State, he said.

Throwing a challenge to the police to arrest those protested against the agitation, he said that the department will not not act against them as they were afraid of Modi and Edapadi Palanisamy, State Chief Minister.

Vaiko said the black flag demonstration will continue till Prime Minister lands his foot in Tamil Nadu soil and he will court arrest only after that.

Modi is expected to land at Coimbatore air port by helicopter around 2.30 PM and will straightaway go to Tirupur and the venue around 3.05 and address the Government Function at 3.15 PM, police said.
