Missing man found dead; elephant attack suspected

The body of a man, who was reported missing for the past two days, was found today in a village under the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) limits. The man is suspected to have died of an elephant attack.

42-year old Mani, a member of the Paniya tribe of Mundakarai, left home on Sunday and was never seen again. His family began looking for him. Villagers reported finding a body on the edge of Naganpalli forest area this morning. The body was identified as that of Mani’s. The head was smashed.

Forest department officials and the cops were called in. The authorities have sent the body for post-mortem to The Gudalur Government Hospital
