About a year and half ago, C. Kishore of NGO, My City Clean City aka MC3 started Namma Kovai, a Whatsapp group. As members, he added a few like-minded people, industrialists, representative from the various governments departments, and NGOs. Currently, Namma Kovai has about 151 members in all.

“The idea behind starting Namma Kovai was to discuss issues that the people of Coimbatore are facing. Having identified the problems, members of this group will work together to find a solution too,” Kishore shares.

Its founder tells us that Namma Kovai, which started off as a group on Whatsapp, will host its debut meeting soon. Kishore also educates us that 15 issues that Coimbatorians have to deal with have been identified. At the meeting, to be jointly chaired by the District Collector and the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation Commissioner, the issues will be brought out. The members of Namma Kovai are hoping to find solutions to these issues too.

Of all the issues, traffic management is the top priority. Kishore tells us that, at the meeting, heads of various corporate houses, who are also members of Namma Kovai, will be invited to adopt wards, roads, streets, schools, and villages. One corporate house, he adds, has shown interest in adopting the stretch from Ramanathapuram to Nanjundapuram. At the meeting, this news will be made official, Kishore tells us.

Apart from this, the members of Namma Kovai are also working on making Coimbatore a plastic-free region. The debut meeting of Namma Kovai will be organized soon, and this will be the first face-to-face meeting of this virtual group. Going ahead, the group has plans of meeting once in three months.
