A. Amalraj, who took charge as the new Commissioner of Police of Coimbatore here on Friday, has assured that the department will take necessary steps to sort out the city’s traffic woes.

Amalraj, a native of Kanyakumari, was formerly the CoP of Salem. He said that his main focus would be the establishment of law and order and the prevention of crime. “I will have to check with other officials and get to know the problems that need to be addressed,” he told reporters in Coimbatore.

He was previously given a guard of honour by the city police at the City Police Commissioner Office earlier today, and was greeted by police personnel.

At around 7.00 am, R.V. Ramya Bharathi took charge as the Superintendent of Coimbatore. She was previously serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) of Coimbatore.

Nisha Parthiban, who was serving as the Joint Superintendent of Police at Kottakuppam Sub-Division in Viluppuram district, was promoted as Superintendent and took charge as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Coimbatore, on Friday.
