In order to create awareness on child labour and its implications, volunteers and members of the District Child Labour Welfare Department sensitised people from various villages in the district through street plays here on Monday.

Inaugurated by District Collector T.N. Hariharan at the Collectorate early on Monday, the performers, including volunteers from NGOs, will also perform in villages in circles like Pollachi, Thondamuthur, Anamalai and Sultanpettai in the district.

“The idea is to make people aware that the lives of the children are hit by child labour. Child labour loots childhood from children,” said an organiser.

The organiser further added that more such events would be held in the future.
