PSG honours kin of organ donors

Coimbatore: PSG Hospitals, Coimbatore, organised a function to honour families who came forward to donate organs of brain dead relatives.
The hospital in an initiative about organ transplantation highlighted the lack of awareness levels about organ transplantation, still in the nascent stages here.
The families were felicitated by Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr C Vijayabaskar. “It was a matter of pride for Tamil Nadu that it had been ranked the top State in organ donations for the last three years consecutively. Even in cases of treating communicable and non-communicable diseases, the State had performed exceedingly well and emerged as a role model for other states.”
The hospital has an expert team that specialies in transplantation surgeries and has successfully carried out some of the most challenging transplant procedures.
PSG Dean Dr S Ramalingam said, “PSG Hospital has been a pioneer in the field of organ transplantation. The hospital has been undertaking several initiatives such as conducting regular seminars and awareness camps at several places to spread awareness about how a single brain dead patient can be beneficial to multiple patients by donating their organs.”
A course on ‘organ procurement and transplantation’ will be started from the next academic year.
