PSG Tech Association of 1969 batch Diamond Jubilee meet

The Diamond Jubilee meet of 1969 batch of PSG College of Technology is scheduled during Aug 17th & 18th and will be held at PSG Guest House. About 50 members with their family are going to join the meet. They all joined the college during 1964 in BE first year Course. They are all interacting with each other for the past 60 years.

During their study period, there were only three branches namely Civil, Electrical and Mechanical. The student’s strength of Civil, Electrical and Mechanical were 17, 48 and 75 respectively. The total strength was 140.
After completing the course majority of the students joined Central government and State government jobs (Electricity Board, PWD and High Ways Department) as well as private company jobs. Some of them went abroad for higher studies and some of them joined IITs for studying MTech programme. Some of them became entrepreneurs by establishing their own companies. Mr G Kannappan (KG Group of Companies), Mr Vijay Mohan (Pricol group of companies), Mr K Suthanthiran ( BEST group of Companies), Mr Govindarajan ( United Group of Companies), Mr K Ponnusamy ( Indira group of companies) and some more members started their own companies and provided job opportunities to thousands of people. After serving for more than 30 years, most of them retired after having a successful career.

During the year 1994, in the month of August they celebrated their Silver Jubilee reunion. Out of 140, 75 members participated with their family in the reunion function. At that time, it was decided to convene reunion meeting for members every year and reunion meeting with family members once in 5 years.

During the year 2019, in the month of August Golden Jubilee celebration was held at PSG College of Technology. It was celebrated with a participation of 85 students with their family members. As part of the Celebration Teachers were invited and honoured and it will be in our memory forever.

Apart from showing our gratitude to teachers, members of 1969 batch of graduates have carried out several social service projects to students as well as poor people. Some of their activities are listed below.

1) A corpus fund of Rs 50 Lakhs was given to PSG Tech Alumni Association for providing scholarship to poor and needy students. The interest earned is being used for giving scholarship to more than 15 students ever year.

2) The 1969 batch have donated Rs 25 Lakhs to PSG GRD Science and Technology Museum.

3) Members of 1969 batch have adopted two villages for helping them based on their need. The Semmedu Village consisting of 55 scheduled caste families and Chinnarpathi village consisting of 50 tribal families. We have renovated all the 55 houses at a cost of 7.5 Lakhs and they have provided items required by the 50 tribal families at a cost of Rs 2.5 lakhs. Every year gift items are being distributed to all the families for celebrating Pongal and Deepawali festivals.

4) During the year 2021, Government Hospitals were struggling hard to provide treatment to Corona affected people. The 1969 batch donated the medical items required for the Hospitals at a cost of Rs 6 Lakhs.

5) Based on the request from the Headmaster of Kunjappanai tribal school, the chemistry laboratory was renovated at a cost of Rs 3.5 Lakhs. The project was completed during the year 2021.

6) During the year 2023, a SMART class room was established for the benefit of students at Narasimhanaicken Palayam Government High School at a cost of Rs 2.5 Lakhs.

It was also decided to carry out some more social service projects during the year 2024.
