Puthiya Tamizhakam (PT) has condemned the arrest and detention of folk singer Kovan under the National Security Act (NSA) on charges of sedition and has called it “wrong and undemocratic.”
The party’s founder-president Dr. K. Krishnasamy, who also is an MLA from Ottapidaram, told reporters in Coimbatore that NSA was invoked against those who work against the sovereignty and integrity of the country, and that Kovan’s arrest under NSA shows misuse of the law.
Alleging that the police did it to earn the ruling party’s goodwill, he demanded that the government withdraw the sedition charges against the Tamil folk singer.
