Residents Seek Metro Rail Nod for Avinashi Road Flyover Extension

Residents of Chinniyampalayam and Goldwins have urged the Metro Rail authorities to grant immediate approval for the proposed extension of the G.D. Naidu High-Level Flyover along Avinashi Road.

The existing flyover covers a distance of 10.1 km between Uppilipalayam and Goldwins. The State Highways Department has planned to extend it by another 5 km up to Neelambur to ease the growing traffic congestion on the busy stretch.

However, the proposal is yet to receive clearance from Coimbatore Metro Rail. The Metro route from Ukkadam to Neelambur is still under finalisation, and officials fear that the extension may hamper future Metro construction if the alignment is not confirmed beforehand.

In their petition to the Metro authorities, residents said the lack of a flyover between Goldwins and Neelambur has resulted in severe traffic snarls. They appealed for a quick feasibility study and approval so that the Highways Department can begin work without delay.

“If the flyover is extended, traffic congestion up to Neelambur will ease considerably,” the petition stated.
