Seven drug-peddlers held in Coimbatore; 110 kg ganja seized

Coimbatore : Seven persons, including a woman, were arrested and 110 kg of ganja was seized in the city.

Based on a tip off, police last night surrounded an eight-member gang Involved in the supply of ganja brought from Andhra Pradesh, to different districts of Tamil Nadu and nearby States.

Police said on Tuesday that on seeing them, one of the gang members managed to escape.

The seven were taken into custody after seizing 110 kg of ganja and a car and two two-wheelers used in transporting the contraband to other places, including near educational institutions in and around the city..

Interrogation revealed that one Shaktivel of Veerakeralam in the city was investing huge money bringing ganja and supplying it to colleges through his accomplices, with the assistance of one Muthulakshmi, they said.

Search was on for Shaktivel, Muthulakshi and the person who escaped last night, they said.
