A two-day Smart Streets exhibition has been organized by Coimbatore Corporation at RS Puram, Kalaiarangam.

Corporation Commissioner K.Vijayakarthikeyan in his welcome address said, “The aim of this smart street-cum-road is to ensure that our roads are made for all, pedestrians and the vehicles. We will work towards ensuring that there is uniform carriage lane along with footpath on sidelines of the roads and intersections will be designed efficiently and in commuter-friendly manner.”

Currently, six streets – DB Road, TV Swamy Road, Sanganoor Road, NSR Road, Masakalipalayam Road and Race Course Road – will be redesigned by the architects selected by Corporation .

‘Namma Kovai Nammake’, a presentation by Shreya .G, Director, The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), gave an idea of the road layout.

G Prakash, Commissioner of Municipal Administration, Sumit Dutt Majumdar, Director of internal finance, Minister of Urban Development, Sandeep Nanduri, Commissioner, Madurai Corporation, B Gandhimathi, Deputy Commissioner, CCMC, and C.R. Swaminathan, President of Residents Awareness Association of Coimbatore (RAAC), were present during the inauguration of this exhibition.

The entry to this exhibition is free and visiting hours are from 11 am to 7:30 pm. It will conclude on Feb 19.
