A 45-year-old pedestrian was killed and another was seriously injured when a speeding private bus hit them at Kurichi, Coimbatore. The crowd, in their anger, damaged the bus.

Rayappan was attempting to cross the road when the bus hit him, killing him on the spot. Another pedestrian was seriously injured, after the bus driver applied sudden brakes and dashed against him. He was admitted to the Government Hospital.

A section of the protesting crowd turned violent and pelted stoned at the bus and damaged a portion of it. Protesters squatted on the road, alleging that buses were plying at high speed without any care of the public and pedestrians. They dispersed after senior police officials pacified them.
