Stalin, DMK members begin hunger strike

Thanjavur: DMK members, led by party treasurer M.K. Stalin, today began their day-long hunger strike in front of the head post office in Thanjavur condemning the Centre for betraying Tamil Nadu in Cauvery water issue by not setting up the Cauvery Management Board.

Stalin is expected to deliver his address at 4 pm.

Senior party leader Durai Murugan, former union ministers T.R. Baalu, S.S. Palanimanickam, former State ministers S.N.M. Ubayadullah and M. Chinnasamy, P.R. Pandian, co-ordinator of All Farmers’ Associations, Deivasigamani, president of Joint Movement of All Farmers’ Associations, Ayyakannu, presidium chairman of Joint Movement of All Farmers’ Associations, R. Sugumaran, vice-president of Joint Movement of All Farmers’ Associations and Chellamuthu, president, Uzhavar Uzhaippalar Katchi are also present.

Party cadres from Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam districts, a large number of farmers owing allegiance to various farmers associations are participating in the fast.
